Radar

Remote Sensing Solutions designs, builds and deploys advanced radar systems and technology to support our customers’ application and mission needs. With a broad range of expertise, our scientists and engineers provide radar solutions from initial modeling stages through  full system design and development. Following development, Remote Sensing Solutions provides field deployment design, along with operational and data analysis support.

The GLISTIN-A system is a solid-state, Ka-band cross track interferometric SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar). RSS developed the GLISTIN-A for NASA. Together, RSS and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are using GLISTIN-A in several airborne field campaigns to provide single pass, wide-swath, decimeter topography mapping of ice sheets and glaciers and for exploring utility of Ka-band radar interferometry to improve flood plain mapping and forecasting.

Features:

  • Single-pass, wide-swath, decimeter topography mapping through employing millimeter-wave cross track radar interferometry
  • Ultra-high precision interferometric phase measurements
  • Ultra-high accuracy internal calibration network providing real-time tracking of transceiver complex gain to better than 0.01 degrees and 0.01 dB
  • Modular, compact, low power solid-state radar design
  • Conduction cooled supporting operation to 75 kft. Unpressurized

The ARENA Radar supports operation from 1KHz up through L-band with direct digital up and down conversion. Reconfigurable at the hardware, firmware and software levels, it enables optimization to mission and platform needs. A network centric and object oriented system architecture allows for remote operation, pulse-to-pulse adaptive sampling and seamless integration into sensor networks. Its modular design allows the ARENA Radar to be scaled to meet application needs. Ultra-compact design enables deployment on small drones.

Features:

  • Ultra-low SWaP: Full transceiver and data system under 0.03 cu. ft., 1 lb and 15W
  • Supports direct RF generation and reception from 1KHz up to 2 GHz
  • Pulse-to-pulse frequency agility on transmission and receptions with up to 256 different modes (i.e. unique transmit-receive processes)
  • Supports up to 300 MHz bandwidth per IF channel and up to eight independent sub channels (pulse-to-pulse reconfigurability)
  • Remote operation through standard network communications (supports WiFi as well)
  • Standard module supports sustained network data rates of 240 MB/s with capability to handle up to 2.4 GB/s and local storage rates up to 100 MB/s
  • Power amplifier and antenna scalable based on application, mission and deployment platform
